Ada Ruth Raymond passed away on December 31, 2021 at the age of 103. She was part of the “Greatest Generation” and lived during two world pandemics! Her loving memory will continue to live on in those who knew and loved her. She was the daughter of William and Ada McDonald of Teaneck, New Jersey. Ruth was a nurse for over 25 years receiving her RN in 1938 and her BS in 1970. She married her hometown sweetheart, Chet Raymond, just before he was shipped overseas in WWII. Upon his return, his best friend, Mac, married Ruth’s sister, Mim. This made for a very close-knit family. Ruth and Chet had two children, Carol and Joyce, and lived for 20 years in Glen Rock, New Jersey. Chet commuted to work in New York City and Ruth was a school nurse.
In 1971, they semi-retired to the Jersey Shore, in Mantoloking, MJ. There, they enjoyed the beach, boating, and the local seafood. Ruth could attack a lobster with greatskill. In 1980, they both fully retired and moved to Vero Beach, Florida, where they resided 25 years.
Ruth volunteered at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach as a Sarah Circle Leader and director of Christmas Tree Lane, a major fundraiser. She enjoyed knitting, photography, crafts, bridge with the “Bloomer Girls”, Frank Sinatra, and was an excellent cook.
After 54 years of marriage, Chet passed away in 1996. Ruth remained in Vero for 8 years before, at age 86, she bought a home in St. Augustine, FL near Carol and Warren. Later she followed family moving to Cary, NC; Conway, SC; and lastly Spring Hill, TN.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Carol Baucum and her husband Warren of Spring Hill, TN; her daughter, Joyce Buckley and her husband David of Murrells Inlet, SC; six grandchildren; Natalie Dyk (Andrew), Tyler Fontaine (Lesley), Jessica Bower (Jake), Gary Baucum (Lacy), Kim Dewey and Kristen Green; great grandchildren; Sarah, Katie, Garrett, Nola and McKenley.
We praise God for Ruth’s full and blessed life of 103 plus years. She will be greatly missed!
