Russell Miller

December 15, 1926 — September 28, 2019

Russell Miller, age 92, of Spring Hill, TN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Russell was born on December 15, 1926 in the coal mining community of Kenvir, KY, known as Black Mountain, to John Russell and Linda Belle Patrick Miller. His family later moved to Kingston, TN where he met his sweetheart, Emma Ruth Woody, in the 3rd grade at Paint Rock School. In the mid 1940's, he joined the army and proudly served our country as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. At the end of the war at 19 years old, he returned to Tennessee, married Ruth, and immediately moved to Battle Creek, Michigan to find work.
Russell spent his working career with Clark Equipment Co. After his retirement he and Ruth happily spent every winter for 20 years in Ft. Pierce, FL. In 2003, he fulfilled his dream to move back to Tennessee and they settled in Spring Hill.
Russell was a special man in that he perfected loving unconditionally, being content whatever the circumstances, never complaining, and always thankful. He laughed often, was rarely without a smile, loved good jokes, and had an extraordinary ability for funny one-liners, even up to his final hours on this earth. He loved the Lord and was a faithful and long-time member of the 20th Street Church of Christ in Battle Creek, Michigan and Southern Hills Church of Christ in Franklin, TN. He also thought no team was as much fun to watch as his Atlanta Braves.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Emma Ruth W. Miller, brothers Clifford Miller, Clyde Miller, Merrell Miller, and sister Atha Smith. Survived by his twin daughters Vickie C. (Wayne) Tomlinson of Brentwood, TN and M. Carissa (Larry) Daly of Beavercreek, Ohio; sister Betty L. Patty of Statesboro, GA; grandchildren Luther Steven (Jayne) Prater, Daniel Neal Prater, Jacob Lee (Kim) Prater, Joshua David (Sarah) Prater, Katherine T. (Jay) Lown, Kyle Wayne (Megan) Tomlinson, and Anastasia (Caleb) Tomlinson Lee; and 11 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who dearly loved him. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home where a service will be held at 2:00 pm with burial immediately following in Spring Hill Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services in Valparaiso, IN or Southern Hills Church of Christ in Russell Miller's memory.
