Robert “Bob” Tate, 90, of Spring Hill, TN, passed away on September 2nd, 2026.

Robert was the youngest of five born in Salcedo, MO, to Orval and Daisy Tate on December 24th, 1935. He graduated from Sikeston High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 through 1958. Upon returning from service, his mother Daisy encouraged him to attend Sikeston Assembly of God Church, where she introduced him to fellow choir member Betty Ballard. Their first date was a Sikeston High School basketball game, followed by a Valentine's Day party the next evening. Four months later, on June 26th, 1959, Bob and Betty were married in Morehouse, MO. They moved to St. Louis, MO, where he worked in computer technologies for General Motors and EDS for 30 years before retiring.

Known to his wife, siblings, and cousins as Robert, affectionately to nieces and nephews as Uncle Robert, and to friends and coworkers as Bob, he carried a Christ-centered and Spirit-filled warmth and devotion into every part of his life. Bob dedicated much of his adult life to ministry and Southern Gospel music. In the 1960s and 70s, he served as song director at Berea Temple Assembly of God in St. Louis, MO, where he and Betty, along with other couples, also invested themselves as youth leaders. To foster community, they regularly hosted planned weekend gatherings, frequently filling the Tate home with 30 to 40 high school and college-age students for food, fellowship, fun, and most importantly, the Gospel.

In the 1960s, he sang with The Golden Gate Quartet and in the very late 1960s, co-founded The Bereans quartet, recording the album 'The Bereans – Come, Meet My Friend' on Nashville’s Music Row in 1972. Both of these musical ministry endeavors were based out of St. Louis, MO, but traveled the states of Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas regularly. Following his career relocation to Michigan, Bob and Betty retired to Spring Hill, TN, in 1999 to be near family, where the Patriarch and Matriarch lovingly became known as PaPa and MieMie by their grandchildren and continued their lifelong love of attending Saturday night Southern Gospel "Singins."

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Daisy Tate, and his siblings, Nadine (Tate) Daniel, Lindiel Tate, and Mary (Tate) Reljac.

Robert Tate is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Rob and Michael; his brother, Hershel; his grandchildren, Dakotah (Jacklyn), Ireland, Journey (Alyssa), and Tresure; his great-grandson, Abel; and his expected great-granddaughter.

A Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 06, 2026 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Spring Hill Memorial Park Funeral Home 5239 Main St., Spring Hill, TN 37174 with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 6th, at Spring Hill Memorial Park Funeral Home, with Pastor John "JP" Privett officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Rob Tate, Michael Tate, Dakotah Tate, Ireland Tate, Journey Tate, and Tresure Tate.
