Elsie Mai Smithson

January 29, 1941 — September 16, 2025

Elsie Mai Brown Smithson, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Lewisburg, Tennessee.

Born on January 29, 1941, in Maury County, Tennessee, Elsie was the daughter of the late Grover C. Brown, Sr. and Ruby I. Lovett Brown. She spent most of her life in the Ash Hill Community before moving to Lewisburg to be near her family.

Elsie was a woman who truly embraced the beauty of a simple life. She never cared for the noise and pace of the city but instead found her greatest joy in the countryside. Whether sitting on her porch admiring the landscape or enjoying the quiet companionship of her beloved cats, Elsie found peace in life’s gentlest moments. More than anything, her family was the heartbeat of her world, giving her strength and filling her days with love.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Brenda Rice; daughter-in-law, Cindy Smithson; grandchildren, Jessica Griffith and Peyton Rice; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her son, Tony Smithson, and her brothers, Grover Brown, Jr., Fred Brown, and Curtis Wayne Brown.

A graveside service to honor Elsie’s life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Jones Cemetery.
