Donald Danko, 85, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2026. Born on May 4, 1941 in Flint Michigan, Don grew up with one brother and three sisters. After graduating from Swartz Creek High School, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. After discharge, Don worked on commercial aircraft and later became medical administrator and a Physician’s Assistant at Lockheed Burbank. In retirement, he secured a US Patent on a product for boat trailers and successfully sold the product for 30 years.
Don was a man of few words, yet his quick wit and great sense of humor was enjoyed by everyone he met. His nickname, “Sportsman Don”, was fitting because he so loved the outdoors. In Michigan he took on snowmobiling, ice fishing and cars. Then, a move to California in the 80’s kept him busy with lake and ocean fishing, hiking, house boating, camping, snow skiing, poker with friends, and golf – a lot of golf.
When not out in the sun having fun, Don loved to cook. Like his mom and sisters, pastries were his best…particularly apple pie, chocolate chip cookies and cheesecake.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years and his younger sister, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. He will be missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a donation to your favorite church or charity in his honor.
