Capt. Wakefield, Jr.

Capt. Fred W. Wakefield, Jr., age 78 of Columbia, TN went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2018. Born in Lorain, OH to the late Frederick W. Wakefield and Bernadette Parsons. He attended Yale University where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy and a M.A. in English. He also attended Northwestern University where he earned an M.A. in Journalism. Prior to his service as a Salvation Army officer, he worked as a news editor for WGN in Chicago. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer on January 27, 1993, and served as a Salvation Army officer and pastor in Sedalia, MO, Mattoon, IL, Chillicothe, MO and served on the service extension board in Rolla, MO. He was a member of the Kiwanas Club of Rolla, MO and a member of the prison ministry team in Licking, MO. Currently a soldier of the Salvation Army Nashville Citadel Corps in Madison, TN. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Carol Joyce Wakefield; children, Gregory Corbin (Angela) Wakefield and Mare Elizabeth (Nomad Ovunc) Wakefield; step-children, Richard Christopher (Kim) Cooper, Jolinda Kaye Cooper, Terrill Anne Sutphin and Wendy Marie (Jimmy Lee) Parsons; sister, Molly (Charles) Milner and 11 grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, Lt. Col. Mickey McLaren, Lt. Col. Charles White and Pastor Tim Romero officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Moreschi & Mike Mondary.
