In Loving Memory of Angela Piotrowski Greenwell

Angela Piotrowski Greenwell, born on March 14, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, in Spring Hill, Tennessee, after a life devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, education, and public service.

Angela's faith was the foundation of her life. She loved Jesus with all her heart, and her relationship with Him guided the way she loved, served, and cared for others. She lived her faith through acts of kindness, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to helping those around her.

A devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Angela's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, strength, wisdom, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Angela's passion for learning was evident from an early age. She graduated as the Valedictorian of Cairo High School, a distinction that reflected the intelligence, determination, and work ethic she carried throughout her life.

Education was her life's calling. She founded Montessori schools in Cairo, Illinois, where she nurtured a love of learning in countless young children. Beyond the classroom, Angela taught thousands of children to swim, giving them not only an important life skill but also confidence that would last a lifetime.

Her dedication to her community was equally remarkable. Angela proudly served as an Alexander County, Illinois County Commissioner, working tirelessly to improve the lives of those she represented. For a time, she also served as the Chair of the Alexander County Republican Party, demonstrating her commitment to civic engagement and public service. She made history as the first female President of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, breaking barriers and opening doors for future generations of women leaders.

Angela will be remembered for her intelligence, determination, generous spirit, and servant's heart. Whether she was teaching, mentoring, serving her community, or caring for her family, she did everything with grace, compassion, and purpose.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Redman Greenwell; her mother, Josephine Wimer Piotrowski; her father, Clement Piotrowski; and her sister, Ann Bernadette Piotrowski Murphy.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jan Greenwell Wingfield and her husband, Ronny, of Natchez, Mississippi; her son, Steven Redman Greenwell and his wife, Rebecca, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; her son, John Gregory Greenwell and his wife, Tami, of Spring Hill, Tennessee; her beloved brother, Clement "Pete" Piotrowski; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom was blessed by her love, guidance, and example.

While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that Angela is now at peace in the presence of the Savior she loved so dearly. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the many students whose lives she shaped, and the community she faithfully served. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for a life well lived, a faith well kept, and a love that knew no bounds.

A one-hour visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, 5239 Main Street, Spring Hill, Tennessee. This will be an opportunity for those who knew and loved Angela to pay their respects and spend time with her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in Angela's memory. Angela spent her life serving others, and honoring her through an act of generosity to a cause close to your heart would be a fitting tribute to her legacy.
